The approvals inbox

Every decision the firm asks of you in one place, what you asked of others, what you decided, and who decides for you while you are away.

Approvals in the sidebar gathers every decision the firm asks of somebody, whatever part of the system keeps it: pre-bills, write-offs, manual journals, client money requests, expense claims, petty cash counts, leave, late time and timesheets, budgets, documents, wall lifts, destructions, bank detail changes, permission changes, clients' detail changes from the portal and the rest. Each reads as one row with what was asked, who asked, when, its value and when it is due.

The approvals queue with what waits on the reader.
The approvals inbox with what waits on you, by kind.

Decide what waits on you

  1. Open Approvals. Waiting on me lists what waits on your decision.
  2. Narrow it with the chips by kind, such as Billing, Client money, Finance, Compliance, People and time, Documents or Client portal, each with its count, or choose Look at first. Search by what was asked or who asked, and open Filters for the Kind and when it is Due.
  3. From a row's menu choose Approve, Return for changes or Reject, with a note where it asks for one. Where approving does more than say yes, such as posting a journal or writing off a debt, the confirmation says what will happen before it does.

A kind decided on its own record, because it asks for your password again or for more than a yes or a no, opens that record instead. A week's timesheet, which has no page of its own, reads in full from View details.

What you asked for, and what you decided

  • My requests follows everything you put forward for somebody else's approval, with where it stands: Waiting, Approved, Returned, Rejected, Withdrawn, Cancelled or Expired.
  • Decided keeps each decision you took, with your note.

Delegations

Delegations lets somebody else decide for you while you cannot.

  1. Choose Delegate.
  2. Choose who it is Decided by, What they decide and the Days it runs, and say Why. Someone who manages the firm's approvals may also choose Whose authority is lent.
  3. Choose Delegate.

The list shows the delegations Lent by me and Lent to me, and for those who manage them, The firm's. End it stops a delegation early. When somebody's approved leave names who covers for them, Cover from leave shows who stands in for whom on document approvals, and until when.

Access and permission requests

The Access tab lists requests for temporary access to a matter or a client, for whoever decides them: see Asking for access. Permission requests lists changes to what a person may do that wait on the managing partner: see Change what a person may do.
