Licence and acceptable use
Last updated 2 September 2026
This text describes how Dangana works and is offered as a starting point. The firm operating this deployment should review it with counsel before publishing it as its own policy.
The terms under which a firm licenses and runs Dangana: what the licence grants, what the firm undertakes, and where the vendor's responsibility ends.
Licence grant
The vendor grants the firm a licence to run Dangana as one deployment for one firm. The licence is granted for a one-time fee, is not transferable to another firm, and does not permit the same deployment to serve more than one firm. The firm owns every record it enters into its deployment; the vendor claims no rights over the firm's data.
Acceptable use
The firm and its users must use the software:
- For lawful purposes only, and in keeping with the professional conduct rules that apply to legal practitioners in Ghana.
- Never to facilitate, conceal or launder the proceeds of crime, or to defeat the reporting duties that apply to the firm.
- Without reverse engineering, decompiling, reselling, sublicensing or offering the software to third parties as a service.
- Without circumventing, disabling or tampering with its security controls, its audit log, its client account safeguards or its access rules.
The firm's responsibilities
Because the firm operates its own deployment, the firm is responsible for:
- Hosting the deployment and paying its own provider accounts for the database, storage, messaging and payments.
- Issuing, protecting and revoking user credentials, and managing who holds which role.
- Configuring backups, keeping the restore verification running, and acting on its results.
- Verifying every rule the documentation marks for legal verification with a practising lawyer before relying on it, including tax treatment, limitation periods, client account handling and retention periods.
- Keeping the deployment upgraded along the documented upgrade path.
The vendor's liability and its limits
The vendor supplies the software as documented and will correct defects in the current version line. The vendor is not liable for the firm's professional decisions or their outcomes, for misuse of the software, for outages or data loss caused by the firm's hosting or providers, or for data loss where the firm disabled, never configured, or did not verify its backups. Nothing in this licence limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Maintenance and support
The one-time licence includes the documented upgrade path and security fixes for the current version line, delivered as releases the firm applies with the upgrade script. It does not include hosting, managed operations, monitoring on the firm's behalf, or bespoke development. Support access to a running deployment happens only when the firm opens a support window, and every action taken during it is recorded.
Custom features and additional work
Features or changes the firm asks for beyond the documented product are quoted and agreed separately. Work delivered this way stays compatible with the upgrade path so that the firm can continue to apply releases.
Termination and its effect
The firm may stop using the software at any time. On termination the firm keeps its data and may take an export of it from its own deployment; the vendor has no copy to return or destroy. Sections on data ownership, liability and governing law survive termination.
Governing law
This licence is governed by the laws of the Republic of Ghana, and the courts of Ghana have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from it.
