Reading path

For the partner

You answer for your matters: the conflict decision, the team, the dates, the time recorded on them and the documents that leave the firm.

  1. 01Sign in and turn on two step sign inSign in at your firm's own address, set a strong password, and protect the account with an authenticator app or an emailed code.
  2. 02Run and decide a conflict checkCheck every proposed party against the whole register before a matter opens, and record the partner's decision for good.
  3. 03Open a matterRecord the enquiry, add the client and parties, clear the conflict check and complete the opening checklist, then open the file.
  4. 04The matter register, views and dashboardFilter the matters you need, save the view for next time, find files nobody has touched, and read a matter at a glance.
  5. 05Set and revise a matter budgetA budget per matter, in its own currency, with optional phases, every revision kept, and the partner told as the spend approaches it.
  6. 06Confirm, extend and complete deadlinesReview the deadlines the rules suggest, confirm them, extend one only with a reason and the authority for it, and complete it with evidence.
  7. 07Reminders and escalationHow reminders climb from the holder to the partner and the managing partner, why each must be acknowledged, and what leave does.
  8. 08Document approvalSend a draft for approval along the firm's route, and understand why nothing leaves the firm until the version asked for is approved.
  9. 09Time approvals, timesheets and targetsApprove late time, run timesheet submission where the firm uses it, and see each fee earner against target.
  10. 10Billing arrangementsSet how a matter is charged, hourly, fixed fee, fixed fee by milestone, retainer or scale fee, with one arrangement in force on any day.
  11. 11Close and archive a matterWork the closure checklist, clear what blocks the close, close the matter, and archive it so its file is dated for retention.
