Billing arrangements
Set how a matter is charged, hourly, fixed fee, fixed fee by milestone, retainer or scale fee, with one arrangement in force on any day.
Set the arrangement
- Open the matter, then Arrangement.
- Choose the kind, the currency, the payment terms in days and the day it starts.
- Fill in what the kind needs:
| Kind | What it records |
|---|---|
| Hourly | Time at the rates in force. |
| Fixed fee | The agreed fee. |
| Fixed fee by milestone | Each milestone and its share of the fee. |
| Retainer | The amount and what happens to what is not used. |
| Scale fee | The firm's scale table and the transaction value it is computed from. |

One arrangement per day
A matter has exactly one arrangement in force on any day. A new arrangement starts from a day, and the old one ends the day before, so each day's work is charged under the terms agreed for that day.
Milestones
Mark a milestone complete when the work is done, and undo it if it was marked in error, until it is billed.
Scale fees
The firm's scale fee tables, for conveyancing and probate for example, are kept under Settings, Scale fees, and computed band by band on the transaction value.
