Task guide

Templates and document generation

Keep the firm's Word templates, draft from them with the matter's details filled in, and file the result on the matter automatically.

The firm's templates

Templates are the firm's own Word files. Each says what it produces and which matter types it is for, and each version is kept, so last year's wording can still be read.

Placeholders in a template are merge tokens from the catalogue under Templates, Merge tokens: the firm, the matter, the client, every party, dates, amounts and amounts written in words, the responsible partner, the court and the signature block.

Draft from a template

  1. On the matter's Documents tab, choose Generate.
  2. Pick the template and check the preview.
  3. Generate. The document is made in the background as Word for editing and PDF for sending, on the firm's letterhead, and filed on the matter with a link back to the template version it came from.

Letters to many parties

A bulk run makes one document per party, each addressed to that party. A party with no address fails its own copy, by name, and the others are made.

Preview a template

Preview draws a template with sample data and files nothing, so an administrator can check a new template before anyone uses it.
