Firm settings and numbering

The rules the firm decides, kept as settings with a history, and the pattern every matter, bill, receipt and journal number follows.

Settings

What a firm decides, the system keeps as a setting rather than a rule written into the software: the time increment, how long an idle session lasts, whether KYC blocks a matter or only warns, the days after which a matter counts as stale, and many more.

  1. Open Settings, then General. Settings are grouped by category, each with a description of what it does.
  2. Change a value and save. Most changes apply within a minute; the few that need a restart say so.
  3. Reset to default returns a setting to what the system shipped with.

Each setting keeps its own history of who changed it, when, and from what to what.

Numbering

Each kind of record the firm numbers has its own scheme: matters, sub matters, bills, credit notes, receipts, journals and documents.

  1. Open Settings, then Numbering, and choose the scheme.
  2. Build the pattern from tokens, such as {YEAR}, {YY}, {PRACTICE}, {MATTER_TYPE}, {PARTNER}, {CLIENT} and {SEQ:4} for a four digit sequence.
  3. Choose how the sequence restarts: never, every year, per practice area, or both.
  4. Check the preview of the next number, then save.
