Checking a lateral hire

Check a joiner's former work and plan the matters they must be screened from.

Only people with the lateral hire permission can see these records or their conflict checks. Former clients' names remain within that permission, including in registers, queues, the inbox and reports.

Record former work

Open Conflicts, Lateral hire, then New lateral hire check. Give the candidate, former firm and expected start. Link their person record if it exists; otherwise link it later.

Add up to 200 former-work rows: client, opposing parties, description, role and years. Leave the last year blank for ongoing work. Mark a row Confidential when the candidate cannot name the client; describe it instead. That row is kept but not searched.

Paste from a spreadsheet accepts tab-separated Client, Opposing, Description, Role, From and To columns. Separate opposing names with semicolons. Use lead, team_member, supervisor or consulted for the role. Read the preview and bad-line messages; only valid rows are added.

Run and decide

Run checks searches the non-confidential client and opposing names, removing duplicate names and splitting them into checks of at most fifty inputs. Decide each check as usual, including dispositions and any required client consents. When every check of the latest run is decided, the hire record becomes decided. Edit former work only while draft or decided, then run again; earlier runs stay listed.

Make screens

On a result connected to a matter, choose Plan a screen. This also needs permission to create ethical walls. Choose the matter and give the reason. With a linked person, the wall is made now; without one, the screen stays planned.

Link person record tries every planned wall. A wall that cannot be made stays planned and the refusal is shown. Read each refusal rather than treating the link as proof that all screens were made.

Withdraw records why the candidate did not join and removes their waiting checks from queues and the inbox. Walls already made stay until lifted on the wall.
